Shamrock Farms

Saturday My family along with my Mom and Grandma Bird, took a Tour at Shamrock Farms down by Maricopa and it was a fun day! It took about 45 minutes to get there and the tour was about 1.5 hours. We learned a whole bunch and the farm grounds are very clean.

They had life size shamrock farm containers to play in, you could climb the milk bottle and slide down the cottage cheese container! you could also see what it feels like for a cow to be milked (on your fingers)

This is the milking station and there's a whole process of washing the cows down and cleaning them with iodine to make sure all bacteria is gone before milking them - They are each milked twice a day

They have 10,000 cows and the average born each day is from 15-25 (when we arrived at 11am they had 13 new calves already)

Ashlyn was able to feed a new baby, she didn't understand why it wanted to suck on her fingers before eating the grain.

Grandma Bird, Weston and I watched Ashlyn feed the cows from the tractor/train

Farm facts:
-1 cow drinks 35 gallons of water everyday
-1 cow eats 100 lbs of feed everyday
-1 cow produces 30 lbs of waste everyday
-1 cow produces 8.5 gallons of milk everyday
